Misinformation online Survey

Amy Mitchell & Mason Walker

Between 2018 and 2021, the stance of U.S. citizens on online misinformation has shifted. Indeed, 48% (as opposed to 39% in 2018) now support government action to fight misinformation, and 59% (as opposed to 56% in 2018) support such action from social networks. The report notes, however, that while a majority of Democrats support such action, Republicans are more reluctant to do so when such measures could impede on free speech.
